Pray for our team as we are serving Christ in West Africa and for Amanda (pictured in burgandy) as she is our anchor and prayer warrior at home.

A taste of African culture

After lunch, Cindy and I went to the market. Greeting people in French and Arabic (two of the most common languages here), we moved through crowds of people but always stopped to make conversation. We even ran into an english teacher at a college here. However, what I find interesting is that instead of going from primary school to middleschool to highschool to college, the people here go from what they call primary school, to college, to highschool, to university. So its a bit different than in the states, but the teacher wanted to talk to us in english for a long time. We talked to him for a while but had to continue on. The ladies above were selling tomatoes and peppers. There was so much color in everything there. It really was an awesome experience.
They use this to mash onions to make a delicious onion sauce that can be eaten with just about anything. We tried it with some bread (which is incredibly yummy) and some chicken (which was incredibly spicy) and it was just great! Senegal is the peanut capitol of the world so there is never a shortage of peanuts and peanut oil, but for this sauce they use lots of peanut oil and saute`d onions that they cook for a long time. No calories at all, I am sure. ;) But who counts those things anyway? :)

  1. Sounds like you're gonna have to cook me some of this yumminess when you get home! Jk! That's neat how God placed that unique opportunity to meet an English-speaking teacher! I can't believe it's only been four days since you left! Your brother is at my house right now along with seven, yes seven other boys. Craziness! Five of the eight had basketball last night, so they were all sweaty and had to take some showers. I was proud of their hygeine from afar and locked myself in my room! lol. Well you are in my prayers. I love hearing what's going on over there! :)Keep serving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! He is so amazing and His love just shines through you!

  2. Thanks, dear! You are awesome! I am blogging every chance I get...hard to imagine me wanting to talk, I know. ;) Please keep the prayers coming. Spiritual warfare is hitting hard for some. However, our God is greater than any other and He will protect His people. Love you! :)

  3. This is mommy 2 posting as Amanda as I am not smart enough to know how to follow on my own:)

Praying for you every morning, day, night, middle of night when I wake up. Keep shining for the Lord, and no more sneaking out at night to film - making my momma heart a little paranoid.

    Love ya,
    Pam
